The Power of Words
Words are some of my very favorite things, and for good reason. Words can be terrible weapons, beautiful love messages, legally binding documents, news from home, life changing experiences, and so much more with no limitations. If you know me than you know that I am not exactly an organized person... unless it comes to writing (either long hang or typing). When it comes to writing, things need to be just right, but at the same time they give you the freedom to express yourself in any way. Not only do I love to write, but I devour books and ponder the meaing behind each one I read. Someday I would love to be able to write like some authors whose pleasure I have had of reading their work, whether it be novel, poem, short story, etc. I took a literature class this last semester and it suprised me at how much i loved the poetry section. It seems like poetry is a little "out-of-date" in a way. But it really never will be. Kindof like hand written letters. You know, the ones you actually use pen and paper with and then put in a letter and add a stamp to. Don't get me wrong, I e-mail and it comes in very handy at times, but there is just something about walking out to your mailbox, opening it up and finding a letter adressed just to you. It seems like it just means more, because it took more than a few clicks to get it to you. It took writing it, getting a stamp, finding your adress, putting it in the mailbox with the happy flag up, the mailman delivering it to the post office, and then taking its course from hand to hand until it ends up in a new destination... your own hands. I still often write letters to loved ones and the feeling of sending it, and especially getting one in return is incredible. That may seem over dramatic, but unless you have got a letter recently (birthday and holiday cards not included) than you can't understand it. Words are constantly changing the world. Written words are even more powerful because once they are written out they have a whole new nature, one that doesn't have to be forgotten, one that people could quote for the rest of time, one that could make a persons day a little brighter or change their whole view on life. The power of words, when organized correctly is a very powerful thing... and that's why I love them so much and hold them so dear to my heart.
